Lunch with Cindy
Photo: Cindy Modeling my New Favorite Scarf of all Time

Olivia, her grandmother Gail and I met my friend Cindy in Rhinebeck for lunch.
We found our way to a small table in the main dining room; Olivia asked about a poster on the wall. Cindy pulled up other examples on her phone of Warhol’s poster era and explained that the model in the poster was Marilyn Monroe.
Olivia listened and then sat up straight and told us about a movie theater in her town that has a bunch of Warhol posters on the wall.
She turned to me. “One day when you visit, I will show you the posters.”
“Sounds good.” I said, amazed that a 9-year-old could connect this Warhol poster to others.
After we ordered lunch, Cindy handed me a small gift bag. I looked inside and squealed.
“It’s done? Already? How did you do this so fast?”
Cindy had picked up her knitting needles after years of not knitting. I’d send her text messages where I joke-asked what she was up to.
“I hope you are knitting.” “Are you knitting?” “Couldn’t you knit some more?”
Cindy handed me a dark blue scarf that was knitted in a railroad stich – to commemorate my love of travel. She added tassels to the end of the scarf.
Sigh.
I set the scarf around my neck and told her that it was a work of art and that I loved it and that I would be wearing it all summer.
